Pay via Strike
Learn how to set up Strike, load cash, and pay Bitcoin Lightning invoices instantly with zero hassle and ultra-low fees.
Why pay with Strike?
Strike is a modern, fast payment app built on the Bitcoin Lightning Network. Unlike traditional Bitcoin payments, Strike allows you to pay Lightning invoices directly using your USD cash balance. The app handles the conversion to Bitcoin automatically in the background, meaning you don't have to buy or hold volatile cryptocurrency to make instant, private payments.
Download & Verify Your Account
To use Strike for payments, you will need to download the app and complete a quick one-time identity verification:
- Download the **Strike** app from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android).
- Sign up with your email address and phone number.
- Follow the prompts to verify your identity. This typically requires entering your legal name, address, date of birth, and SSN.
- In some cases, you may be asked to upload a photo of your ID (driver's license or passport) and take a quick selfie to secure your account.
Verification is often automated and approved in just a few minutes. Make sure to complete this step before trying to make a purchase!
Add Cash / Link a Payment Method
Before paying an invoice, you need to fund your Strike account balance:
- Go to your **Account** tab (represented by the user icon).
- Tap on **Payment Methods** to link a debit card, bank account (via Plaid), or initiate a wire transfer.
- Tap **Deposit** on your Cash screen and transfer USD into your account.
No Bitcoin needed: You do NOT need to buy Bitcoin first. You can pay any Lightning invoice directly using your regular USD Cash Balance. Strike automatically converts the dollars at the moment of payment.
Scan the QR Code to Pay
When you click "Buy" or "Unlock" on a file on Nutt and choose Lightning payment:
- A checkout screen will appear showing a Lightning Network QR Code and a payment amount.
- Open the Strike app.
- Tap the **Pay** button (or the QR code camera/scanner icon on the top or bottom navigation bar).
- Point your camera at the Nutt QR code to scan it. Strike will automatically load the invoice details and payment amount.
On Mobile? Copy and Paste instead
If you are browsing Nutt on the same mobile device where your Strike app is installed:
- Tap the invoice text or string on Nutt to copy it to your clipboard (it is a long text starting with
lnbc...). - Open Strike and tap the **Pay** button.
- Strike will detect the invoice in your clipboard automatically, or you can paste the text directly into the recipient address field.
- Strike will automatically load the exact payment details and amount.
Confirm Payment to Unlock
Double-check the transaction details before finalizing:
- Verify the USD amount and recipient info.
- Choose your payment source (either your **USD Cash Balance** or **Bitcoin Balance**).
- Confirm the payment. It will be sent and settled instantly via the Lightning Network.
- Once paid, return to the Nutt page. The checkout window will automatically update, and your file will be unlocked!
